LEAP, which stands for Liga Esports Antara Parlimen, is the latest esports initiative to enter the grassroots esports scene. Organised by Kakuchopurei, this brand-new esports league aims to raise a new generation of esports athletes in the country; amidst the Southeast Asian scene that is catered only towards mid-level and professional players.
How it works is simple. Malaysians from different constituencies will compete against each other in friendly versus matches in a series of preliminary rounds, leading up to a grand finals where the winners will be crowned. The tournament will cover a wide variety of genres and titles, specifically Street Fighter 6, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, FIFA 23, and most notably, Gigabash from Malaysian studio Passion Republic.
In the long run, Kakuchopurei hopes to make esports accessible to everyone at the grassroots level. With Season 1 as their first leap of faith, their goal is to build a fully-realised esports circuit consisting of all 222 Parliamentary constituencies that also contributes back to international tourism in the long run.
