THE MAGIC RAIN had the chance to stop by at NoizuCon 2022 on the 15th and 16th October! While the convention had all kinds of amazing content to offer, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) booth stood out to us the most. It featured various Malaysian-made games, including titles from indie developers and even student projects.
Here’s our pick for the top three games that were shown at the booth!
Exist.exe
Exist.exe was one of the first games we tried at NoizuCon 2022, and it set the bar high for the other featured titles. Created by Skyfeather Games, Exist.exe is a top-down puzzle hacking game with a storyline that is still in its developmental phase. Players can use a controller or a keyboard to move around the map and hack their way through gates to progress the story.
The game also takes inspiration from Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) by incorporating concepts such as existentialism and creation. It’s great for casual gamers who like to immerse themselves in a world of adventure and exploration. One might even find it very relaxing, yet addictive at the same time.

Ameowzing Tales
Ameowzing Tales is a game created by Reclaim Studio, a team of graduates from the University of Wollongong (UOW) Malaysia under KDU University College. As the game’s title suggests, the main character is a cat named Chonky, who aims to reunite with his knight friend by exploring the world. Players get to move Chonky around the map and interact with the different elements across the in-game environment.
This game definitely captured our attention with its cute art style and casual game format. However, like many of the showcased games, Ameowzing Tales is currently still under development. We can only hope that this wholesome game will be made available soon!

Kabaret
If you’re a local indie game fan, this title will need no introduction as you may have seen this game lurking around for the past few years. For the uninitiated, Kabaret is a visual novel based on South-East Asian folklore, developed by Persona Theory Games.
The game has been in development for some time, with the studio constantly hard at work coming up with new in-game features and refinements in the hopes of taking Kabaret to the next level. Having tried the previous version of the demo in 2021, we can assure you that the new and improved game definitely exceeded our expectations. Letting you all in on a secret — the game has been scheduled for 2023!
Stay tuned for more information on Kabaret on Twitter. You can also check out our previous feature on Kabaret here!
