The Chiikawa animated series is set to expand globally with new international dubs, bringing the series to even more audiences worldwide. An English-language dub will be released via the Chiikawa Official YouTube channel on October 1, with French, Brazilian Portugese, and Latin American Spanish to follow.
The news was announced via the Fall 2026 issue of Total Licensing magazine, which also confirmed that the Chiikawa series will partner with American toy manufacturer Jazwares for its first-ever international product wave. Jazwares is also set to produce merchandise based on other popular Japanese properties, including Mofusand and Koupen Chan.
Created by illustrator Nagano, Chiikawa began as a series of comics posted on X in 2020, where it rapidly grew into a global phenomenon. The franchise has inspired numerous merchandise lines and collaborations, having earned more than 400 million views on YouTube through a short anime series that began airing in 2022.
The series’ first-ever theatrical film, Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, originally released in Japan on July 24, where it opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office. The film has since gone on to earn „16.85 billion (approx. USD$107 million) in Japan alone, becoming the country’s 14th most successful film of all time.
