After nearly seven years of waiting, Kingdom Hearts fans are now one step closer to experiencing Kingdom Hearts IV, now officially slated for a late 2027 release. A new trailer for the game debuted during D23 2026, showcasing a new in-game world based on the movie Coco.
Kingdom Hearts IV follows protagonist Sora and a cast of familiar characters as they journey through the mysterious city of Quadratum, where dark creatures known as the Heartless are causing havoc. In addition to Sora, fans will also be able to play as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as they seek to uncover information about Sora’s whereabouts.
The new trailer was accompanied by the announcement of Kingdom Hearts (working title), an original anime series for Disney Channel and Disney+. While no plot details have been released for the anime, we do know that it is being developed in collaboration with Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at Square Enix.
Kingdom Hearts IV will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation5, XBOX Series X|S and PC in late 2027, and is available to wishlist now. New fans can also catch up with the series through the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S, which releases on October 8, 2026.
