The familiar sights and sounds of Malaysian life take center stage this September as GMBB, Kuala Lumpur’s creative community mall, presents Rentak MalaysiaKu 2026: Slice of Life. The annual Malaysia Day celebration runs throughout the month, featuring exhibitions, performances, workshops, films, poetry, city walks, pop-ups, and cultural experiences .
Curated by GMBB alongside its creative community, Rentak MalaysiaKu 2026 invites visitors to rediscover the things often taken for granted—what we eat, where we gather, what we make, and the little habits we share. Programs unfold throughout the weeks leading up to Malaysia Day, culminating in a packed weekend on September 12 and 13, 2026.
“At GMBB, we have always believed that one of the most meaningful ways to understand Malaysia is through each other. Slice of Life celebrates the little things, habits and traditions that may feel familiar to some of us, but completely new to someone else. ” said Lim Ying Hui, Senior General Manager of GMBB.
“Through Rentak MalaysiaKu, we hope Malaysians can recognise a little of themselves, while experiencing how others live, create and carry their traditions. It is through these different slices of life that we begin to appreciate just how diverse, yet connected we really are.”

Rentak MalaysiaKu offers multiple ways to experience the moments that color Malaysian life:
- Footnote: Reading KL on Foot by Briana Leong – Four specially themed walks focusing on food, objects, signs, and spaces around Kuala Lumpur
- Mini Show Gallery – Captures the sights, sounds, flavors, and experiences of life across Malaysia in miniature form
- Slice of Life Limited Edition Sticker Rally – A hunt for specially designed collectibles across GMBB tenant stores from September 12 to 16
- Rasa Pasar – Explores the market as a living archive of taste
- IMMERSIO 2026: PASAR – Organized by new media art collective Filamen from September 11 to 27, this exhibition interprets the market through art installations, projection mapping, and digital works by artists from across Southeast Asia
- Play Play Asia’s What Should We Have Tomorrow? – Turns meal planning for loved ones into a guided solo journaling game
- Ingredients from the Market: Mengkuang Bag Painting – Visitors can turn their favorite pasar finds into art by adding personal touches to traditional woven bags
Borneo, In Its Own Words
In a special collaboration with GMBB, HAUS KCH brings contemporary Bornean voices to Rentak MalaysiaKu. Running from September 2 to 30, Inheritance: Borneo Women by Undercurrent brings together contemporary East Malaysian artists and collectives to explore Borneo’s matriarchal legacy.
- Sewang Ne’asik by Luheiw Renaweij – Instruments, singing, and dancing from Perak’s Orang Asli Semai community
- Bharatanatyam performance and lecture demonstration – A glimpse at the artistry behind the Indian classical dance form
- Fusion Wayang Kulit – A contemporary spin on the centuries-old art of shadow puppetry
- Hands-on heritage activities including Mini Songket Weaving and designing Peranakan-inspired ceramic tiles
- Browse locally inspired perfumes, beaded accessories, and more from five Bornean makers
- Experience six Slice of Life-inspired poetry works and a live performance by Wordsmiths of Kuching
- Catch a selection of short films and documentaries by Bornean filmmakers
A Malaysia Day Tradition at GMBB
Since 2019’s Malaysiaku event featuring Yasmin 10 Years On, GMBB has continued to curate annual Malaysia Day programs, evolving through Let’s Sustain MalaysiaKu, Rasa Sayang, and Rentak MalaysiaKu—each exploring the nation through a different lens.
With programs beginning August 22 and continuing throughout September 2026, visitors can experience Rentak MalaysiaKu 2026: Slice of Life at GMBB, with the main weekend taking place on September 12 and 13.
