The BAFTA Games Awards are now open for entries, celebrating outstanding creative and technical achievements across the games industry. Winners are selected by BAFTA’s expert membership of more than 1,700 experienced games professionals and industry juries.
The 22nd BAFTA Games Awards earlier this year saw Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Dispatch each take home three awards, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 winning Best Game and Atomfall receiving the British Game award.
Changes Coming to the 2027 Awards
BAFTA has introduced several changes for the 2027 edition. The Evolving Game category will now be open to a member-wide vote across all rounds, with both nominations and the winner determined by BAFTA’s expert games membership.
BAFTA has also updated its rules surrounding AI, clarifying that the Games Awards recognise outstanding human creative achievement regardless of the tools used to create the final work. BAFTA may request additional information, including supporting credits and materials demonstrating human creativity and development.
The entry fee structure has also been revised:
- Removal of the previous Early Entry/Month of Release 50% discount.
- A new 25% discount for eligible independent and small developers.
- A new base entry fee covering up to four categories of the entrant’s choice.
- Additional entry into Best Game, British Game, Performer in a Leading Role and Performer in a Supporting Role where applicable.
- A reduced single-entry fee for the Evolving Game category.
- Additional fees for categories entered beyond those included in the base entry fee.
Key Dates
Entries for the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards opened on August 11, 2026 Games released between November 15, 2025 and July 31, 2026 must be submitted by September 18, 2026; while for games released between August 1 and November 19, 2026, the entry deadline is November 6, 2026.
The 2027 BAFTA Games Awards longlist will be announced on December 8, 2026, followed by a final round of nominations in March 11, 2027. The BAFTA Games Awards ceremony will then take place on April 14, 2027, as part of the London Games Festival, which runs from April 12 to April 19 across the UK capital.
