The Chiikawa series will receive its first-ever film adaptation this summer, titled Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island. In conjunction with the film’s release, Uniqlo will be launching a special UT collection inspired by the film.
The collection includes four different T-shirts and three sweatshirts in adult womens’ sizes, as well as four T-shirts and three sweatshirts in kids’ sizes, all set to launch this 10 August. The full lineup will be available at Uniqlo stores in Fahrenheit88, Mid Valley Megamall, The Exchange TRX, and 1 Utama, as well as via the uniqlo.com online store.
Originally created by illustrator Nagano, Chiikawa is a heartwarming, bittersweet, and sometimes surprisingly tough story about the everyday lives of fuzzy creatures named Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi. The upcoming movie adapts the manga’s “Siren Arc,” a long-form storyline and one of the most popular episodes in the series.
