A new anime film in the Sword Art Online franchise, titled Sword Art Online the Movie: Integral Domain, is set to be released in 2028, picking up where the anime’s Alicization arc left off. A new teaser trailer and poster were released in conjunction with the announcement.
Animation for Integral Domain will be produced by A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio, with Shingo Adachi (Lycoris Recoil, Sword Art Online) as director and Yumiko Yamamoto (Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc) as character designer. Voice actors Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu will reprise their roles as Kirito and Asuna, respectively.
The Sword Art Online franchise is based on a series of light novels created by author Reki Kawahara, which follow Kirito, a young man who finds himself trapped within a virtual reality game. Kirito and the game’s 10,000 players are thus forced to survive a high-stakes adventure, where dying in the game means dying in real life.
The series was first adapted into an anime in 2012, followed by several theatrical film releases starting from 2017. A new action-adventure game inspired by the series, Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad, is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2026.
