Akane-banashi Anime Gets 2nd Season in January 2027

TV Asahi has officially announced that Akane-banashi will return for a second season in January 2027. The announcement followed the conclusion of the first season’s Karaku Cup Arc, with a new visual and celebratory illustration released to commemorate the sequel.

The upcoming season will continue Akane’s journey after she graduates from high school and officially becomes an apprentice of Shiguma Arakawa, taking on the professional stage name Akane Arakawa as she pursues her dream of becoming a master rakugo performer.

Several new cast members introduced in the first season’s finale are set to play key roles moving forward, including Hochu Otsuka as Miroku Kashiwaya, Ryotaro Okiayu as Shomei Tsubakiya, Hiroshi Naka as Enso Sanmeitei, Mutsumi Tamura as Urara Ransaika, Shinichiro Miki as Ryu’un Kenputei, and Tomokazu Seki as Chocho Konjakutei.

The series follows Akane Osaki, who is inspired by her father, Shinta Arakawa, to enter the competitive world of rakugo after witnessing a life-changing event that derails his career. Created by writer Yuki Suenaga and illustrator Takamasa Moue, the manga debuted in 2022 and has quickly become one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s most acclaimed modern series.
