Ammobox Studios Acquires ‘Depth’ From Digital Confectioners

Malaysia-based indie developer Ammobox Studios, an MD company supported by MDEC, has acquired Depth, an underwater assymetric multiplayer game, from its original developers at Digital Confectioners.

Originally released in 2014, Depth pits divers against deadly sharks in tense, high-stakes combat, featuring immersive underwater environments and heart-pounding gameplay. With this acquisition, Ammobox Studios aims to not only preserve Depth’s legacy, but also explore new ways to revitalise and expand the franchise for both longtime fans and new players.

“We are beyond excited to acquire the Depth IP and continue development on Depth. We have something exciting brewing behind the scenes,” said Jeremy Choo, CEO of Ammobox Studios. “We’ve admired the creativity that made Depth such a unique experience, and we’re committed to being responsible stewards of the franchise. Our goal is to honour the original while looking toward its next evolution.”

“Depth has been a huge part of our journey for more than a decade, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible community that’s kept these waters alive. Every diver, every shark, every fan who’s played and supported the game you’ve made it something special. We’re now passing the torch to Ammobox Studios, a team that shares our passion for Depth and its world. They have the energy and focus to take it forward, and we’re confident they’ll treat both the game and its community with the same care and respect that have defined it from day one,” shared James Tan, managing director of Digital Confectioners.

Pontus Mähler, co-founder at Agora Gaming Partners, additionally commented: “Agora is proud to have supported both Ammobox Studios and Digital Confectioners in this transaction. Depth remains one of the most distinctive multiplayer experiences of its kind, and we believe there’s significant untapped potential in the IP. The market for high-quality shark-themed action games is remarkably underrepresented, and Ammobox’s vision positions them well to expand the franchise for a new generation of players.”

Ammobox Studios is currently evaluating opportunities to enhance Depth’s gameplay experience, update its technology, and engage the community in shaping the future of the franchise. More details will be shared in the coming months.
