Exorcise The Ghosts Of 2000s’ Japan In ‘Itachi: Haunted Abodes’

Developer room6 has announced Itachi: Haunted Abodes Wandering Through 2000s Tokyo Culture, a surreal point-and-click adventure game where players explore Tokyo’s unique subcultures to uncover the mystery behind a haunted property.

Set in the vibrant landscape of Tokyo in the 2000s’, you play as college student Itachi, who takes up a job that seems too good to be true – earning 100,000 yen just for living in a building rumoured to have lived through psychological traumas. With food, clothing, and shelter all provided, all he has to do is live there for a week with Tanuki the real estate agent.

Unbeknownst to him, the property is actually home to “Ubusuna”, a strange phenomenon left behind by its previous, deceased resident. Tanuki’s real goal is to use Itachi as bait to manifest the Ubusuna, return it to its hometown, and cleanse the property.

The story progresses by switching between Itachi and Tanuki.’s perspectives Itachi is an ordinary person with extraordinary communication skills, allowing him to gather information from people he meets for the first time; while in contrast, the shy Tanuki has trouble speaking to others, but can “see” the unseen. You’ll use the abilities of both characters to negate the Ubusuna’s attacks and gather information.

By uncovering the Ubusuna’s name, place of origin and cause of death, you will be able to return these spirits to their rightful home. Your investigation will take you beyond the boundaries of the property and into the chaos of Tokyo’s subcultural hotspots, where you’ll meet visual kei band members, maids, lolitas and more.

Itachi: Haunted Abodes is now available to wishlist on Steam. A playable demo will also be available at Tokyo Game Show 2025.
