‘Ritual of Raven’ Is A Charming Card-Based Farming Sim, Coming August 8th

From the developers of Sticky Business comes a witchy new business endeavour. Ritual of Raven is a story-based farming sim where you don’t do the farming yourself. Instead, you enchant Arcana Constructs to grow a magical herb garden, befriend cute weirdos around town, and use your new arcane abilities to stabilise the portals that are causing trouble for the village.

A charming mix of automation games and coding-lite gameplay, its main mechanic involves using Arcana Constructs to plant, water, and harvest your crops. But first, you have to input the right sequences using your mythical deck of cards. Even for players without a coding background, the game manages to break down the fundamentals of programming in an approachable manner.

There is no winning or losing in this game, which means you have the freedom to mess around with different cards and sequences until you arrive at something satisfactory. But as more complex cards and sequences get introduced, the game evolves further into an automation-like experience where you can aim to make your herb garden as self-sustaining and efficient as possible.

Ritual of Raven encourages its players to take things at their own pace. Whether you’re focused on progressing the main story, getting to know the quirky locals, or simply decorating your world to make it feel as homely as possible, there are many ways to approach this colourful pixel art world.

Still, the game is going to appeal the most to fans of farming simulators or completionist players who delight in collecting and exploring a vast world. From gathering ingredients and collecting decorations, to filling up your Book of Shadows and finding Portal Keepers, it seems like this cozy farming sim has a lot more hidden up its sleeve.

Developers Spellgarden Games first started work on Ritual of Raven in 2021, before taking a break to develop their hit cozy game Sticky Business. Now with Team 17 Digital onboard as their publisher, Ritual of Raven went back into development last year and the team is now gearing up for the full launch on August 8th, 2025.
