Xbox and ASUS have announced a new collaboration to create handheld gaming devices designed to provide seamless access to Xbox and PC games on the go. The partnership introduces the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, two handheld consoles aimed at delivering high-performance gaming experiences with flexibility for players.
The ROG Xbox Ally is positioned as a handheld device suitable for casual and enthusiast gamers alike, while the ROG Xbox Ally X targets demanding players seeking top-tier performance. Both devices support native gameplay, cloud streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), and remote play with an Xbox console.
Optimized for Windows 11, the handhelds will offer an aggregated gaming library, allowing users to access games from Xbox, Battle.net, and other major PC storefronts through a unified interface called the Xbox full screen experience. This integration aims to simplify game discovery and management across platforms.
Additional features include a dedicated Xbox button for quick access to apps and chat, contoured grips modeled after Xbox Wireless Controllers, and enhanced accessibility options. The devices also incorporate ASUS’s Armoury Crate software to provide advanced control over device settings and inputs.

The Xbox Ally devices will be compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere, enabling players to maintain progress and achievements across Xbox consoles, PCs, and the handhelds without extra purchases. Integration with Xbox Game Pass allows access to hundreds of titles, with new users receiving complimentary membership benefits at launch.
Xbox and ROG will also partner with developers to optimize titles specifically for handheld play. One major highlight is Roblox, set to be available natively on the Xbox Ally at launch, marking its first optimized appearance on a handheld device.
The handhelds will launch this holiday season in multiple markets, including the U.S., U.K., Japan, Germany, Canada, and others, with more regions in the works. Pricing, pre-order details, and accessory options will be announced in the coming months.
Those interested in getting the latest updates can sign up to recieve pre-order notifications ahead of the official launch. A full list of specs for both devices can be found on the official Xbox website.
