SomeBODY once told me… that Shrek: The Musical will be playing its first-ever show in Southeast Asia later this year. A widely beloved stage adaptation of the popular Dreamworks film, the musical is set to take place from October 31 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay, the Philippines.
Much like the film, viewers will follow Shrek, a grumpy but lovable ogre, as he embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona from the clutches of the evil Lord Farquaad. Along the way, he’ll be accompanied by his motor-mouthed sidekick Donkey and a colourful cast of fairy-tale characters, all set to an original soundtrack composed by Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire.

The original Broadway production of the show won Outstanding Actor, Outstanding Set Design, and Outstanding Costume Design at the 2009 Drama Desk Awards, as well as Best Costume Design at the Tony Awards. The original cast recording was also nominated for Best Musical Show Album at the 2009 Grammy awards.
Tickets for the upcoming Philippine show are available here. The show is also currently casting for its version of young Fiona, with details available here.
