Studio 4°C Announces Anime Adaptation Of ‘All You Need Is Kill’

Studio 4°C and Warner Bros. Japan have announced a new anime film based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s 2004 light novel All You Need Is Kill. The project is being helmed by director Kenichiro Akimoto, unit director of Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko and CG director of Children of the Sea.

The original All You Need Is Kill light novel follows Keiji Kiriya, a soldier who is part of an armour-clad troop that battles a mysterious invading alien force known as Mimics. One day, he mysteriously finds himself stuck in a time loop, forced to relive the same day over and over. On his 158th revival, he is contacted by Rita, a formidable soldier who has earned the moniker of the Full Metal Bitch.

The upcoming anime will take a different approach from the novel by adapting the story from Rita’s perspective, and will offer a surreal, psychedelic visual style that vastly differs from previous adaptations of the novel.

All You Need Is Kill was previously adapted into a manga series in 2016, illustrated by Takeshi Obata of Death Note fame. It also famously inspired the 2014 Tom Cruise blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow, which reimagines the characters as American soldiers.

More updates on the All You Need Is Kill anime will be made via its official website.
