Malaysian Game Designer Launches Kickstarter Campaign For Two Tabletop RPGs

Malaysian tabletop designer Aaron Lim has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help produce new Second Editions for his previously released games Ithaca in the Cards and What Should We Have Tomorrow. The Second Editions will feature new covers and interior art from Malaysian artists Xiao Ming Tang and Thar Chandran, respectively.

The new versions of the games will preserve their core concepts, but also add various updates to rules and tweaks for clarity, as well as expanding the prompt tables included in the games.

Ithaca in the Cards: Second Expedition

In Ithaca in the Cards: Second Expedition, players create characters returning home from a shared quest, drawing cards to determine the Trials their characters will face. Each character then narrates how they rely on an Asset, Aim, or Archetype to survive, drawing cards to compare against the Trial’s total. If they fall short, they lose their reliance, and if they lose too many, they die.

Characters also die if their card total exceeds 21, and the game ends when only one character survives, all die, or a character hits exactly 21. The game explores tragedy and what it means to persevere in search of a way home.

A demo of the game is currently available via itch.io. On top of an expanded prompt table, the Second Expedition will also add mix-and-match prompts for setting and character creation.

What Should We Have Tomorrow? Full Course

In What Should We Have Tomorrow? Full Course, players create a chef and the loved one(s) they are cooking for. They then draw cards to populate their pantry, with red cards for perishable Fresh Ingredients and black cards for non-perishable but limited Dry Ingredients.

After drawing cards to determine their loved one’s mood and food preferences, players can take some preparation actions to get more cards or increase the flexibility of the cards, before making a meal by combining cards and their represented ingredients. The goal is to create meals that satisfy your loved ones, with your recipes and reflections on cooking recorded in a recipe journal.

A demo of the game is currently available via itch.io. The new version of the game will add optional reusable vinyl sticker sets for players to customise their kitchens, designed by Malaysian artist Yon/4threset.

Rewards & Stretch Goals

The Kickstarter campaign aims to raise $4,038 to support the production of both games, with backers receiving either a digital or physical copy of the games, depending on their backing tier. The designer also plans to add additional rewards if the project exceeds its original funding goal:
