The story of the Haikyuu!! anime series will officially be continuing in a brand-new movie. The news was announced during Next Step, a Haikyuu!! event that was recently held in Japan on March 2.
The movie, “Haikyuu!! VS The Little Giant”, will pick up from where the last movie, “Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle”, left off. Fans will see Hinata face off against his toughest opponent yet – Korai Hoshisumi, the top player from Kamomedai, who also happens to have a short stature like Hinata.
Susumu Mitsunaka, who worked on previous Haikyuu!! projects, returns as both writer and director for this film at Production I.G.
In addition to the new movie, a spin-off short anime titled “Haikyuu!! Where Monsters Go,” was also confirmed. The short will showcase a pivotal match between side characters from Fukurōdani Academy and Mujinazaka High School.
The last Haikyuu!! film, “Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle”, debuted in Japan on February 16. Also directed and scripted by Susumu Mitsunaka, it sold 1,529,000 tickets and grossed approximately 2,230,465,540 yen (about US$14.12 million) in its first three days.
