HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 will officially be returning in April 2025. The release window was revealed in a minute-long teaser during Sony’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The new teaser gives us a better look at Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) in an extremely familiar hospital scene, in addition to a few glimpses at other scenes: Jackson being attacked, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) dancing, Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright) and the Seraphites, and Joel (Pedro Pascal) shedding a tear.
The second season takes place five years after the first season, in which Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.
The first teaser for Season 2 was revealed last September together with the key art designed by Greg Ruth, who previously designed for Dune, Coming Home, and Freaks of the Heartland.
The Last of Us Season 1 first aired on January 15th, 2023 to critical acclaim, leading to the second season being renewed less than two weeks after its series premiere. The first season covered the events of the 2013 video game of the same name, and the second season is expected to cover the entirety of the 2020 sequel game in its seven episode run-time.
Neil Druckmann, the co-creator of The Last of Us, returns to helm the second season with Craig Mazin (Chernobyl). They are also joined by writers Halley Gross (Westworld) and Bo Shim, the former of whom co-wrote The Last of Us Part II video game with Druckmann.
