FV Major 2024 Malaysia, one of the most anticipated events in the fighting game community, took place from the 27th and 28th July 2024 at Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur.

FV Major has long been a staple in the regional fighting game circuit, renowned for its high-level competition and vibrant community atmosphere. The 2024 iteration of FV Major surpassed all previous editions, featuring a diverse lineup of games and world tours, including Street Fighter VI, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear -Strive-, King of Fighters XV, Dragon Ball FighterZ and GranBlue Fantasy Versus Rising. These titles not only attracted veteran players but also drew in new competitors eager to make their mark on the regional stage.
Global Talent and Local Heroes
FV Major 2024 showcased the skills of some of the world’s best fighting game players, including established champions and rising stars. As an official stop on the Tekken World Tour 2024, SNK World Tour 2024, Arc Revo World Tour 2024 and Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour 2024, competitors were fighting for crucial ranking points and a share of the substantial prize pool. Some of the best players in the world converged at this tournament including Atif, Ulsan, Knee, Rangchu, MADKOF and more.
But it wasn’t just about international talent; FV Major has always been a platform for local and regional players to shine. Malaysian players like Shao and Fate have become fan favorites, consistently performing well and gaining recognition on the regional stage. This year’s event was no different, with local heroes defending their home turf against some of the best on the international stage.

The event featured a variety of activities and attractions, including casual free play zones, cosplayers cosplaying fan favourite characters (Juri, Reina and even Xiaoyu!), exclusive merchandise for the players, various contests and even a major lucky draw featuring a car as the grand prize!

Room for Improvement
FV Major throughout the years have evolved into a household name that is bigger than the sum of its components. With many international players recognizing it as a must attend event in Malaysia, the expectations for how the event is run and managed could be further improved with added space, manpower and also overall support from multiple parties. This year there were delays in the tournament scheduling due to the sheer amount of participants as well as the physical space limitation of the location.
The lack of space was clearly felt because more than 400 players showed up on Day 1, and without a dedicated rest area for players, many of the players were just loitering around waiting for their matches to be scheduled, which was delayed considerably. FV Major has grown considerably large since its inception and a spacious location befitting its regional status would serve it well moving forward.
