Overwatch just dropped the details for Season 12 and there’s plenty to unpack — from a brand new Support Hero and core gameplay mode, to an upcoming World of Warcraft collaboration and a Reaper Mythic skin. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the new season launch this August 20th.
The New Support Hero, Juno
Juno is a versatile new Support Hero who provides simultaneous healing and damage with her Primary Fire and Secondary Fire. The Hyper Ring ability reminds us of a certain blue hedgehog, accelerating her teammates for quick engagements and retreats, while her Martian Overbootss allows her to double jump and hover.
Her Ultimate Orbital Ray is the biggest game changer: a moving beam that heals allies and increases their damage, allowing teammates to burst through tough chokes and fortified defenses.
Juno will be available in both Quick Play and Competitive Play when Season 12 launches on August 20th.
The New Mythic Skin, Anubis Reaper
Available on the Premium Battle Pass or those who have leftover Mythic Prisms, the Mythic Anubis Reaper skin is the ultimate reward in this season’s Anubis-themed battle pass. If Reaper isn’t your style, maybe the Mythic Midnight Sun Ana Weapon Skin will do the trick. Both can be unlocked using Mythic Prisms in the Mythic Shop.
The New Game Mode, Clash
Clash is the new core game mode that pits teams against each other in a relentless battle for dominance over multiple capture points. With dynamic spawns and streamlined map routes, players spend more time in the heat of battle and less time running back to the front lines.
Not only that, Clash comes with two familiar-looking maps. In Temple of Anubis, discover the dangerous AI that caused the Omnic Crisis, sealed away in Throne of Anubis. Then discover new secrets of Shimada Castle as you explore the streets of Hanaoka, inspired by the aesthetics of the beloved Hanamura area.
Mid-Year Competitive Rank Reset
In Season 12, Overwatch 2 will be having its second competitive rank reset since the start of the game. That means all players will have to play 10 placement matches to determine their starting rank again. While completing your Placement Matches, you’ll also get an idea of your predicted rank based on your progress so far.
The Overwatch 2 developer team is also working on improving the Avoid As Teammate feature to give players a more tailored matchmaking experience, as well as the Group Respawn feature in Quick Play mode.
Overwatch 2 Heads To Xbox Game Pass On September 17th
Good news for Xbox Game Pass subscribers! From September 17th to October 21st, simply link your Battle.net account to an eligible Xbox Game Pass account to receive an instant one-time grant of 30 Mythic prisms to spend on Mythic unlocks, and six awesome hero skins: Cardboard Reinhardt, Turtleship D.Va, Cyberdragon Hanzo, Street Runner Genji, Bee Mercy, and Cleric Lifeweaver.
Additional in-game collectibles will be ongoing while you remain subscribed to an eligible Xbox Game Pass account with your Battle.net account linked.These include an array of items via continuous access to select Overwatch 2 Shop cosmetics from prior seasons, plus a stackable XP boost.
Upcoming Overwatch 2 x WarcraftCollaboration
In the last moments of the Overwatch 2 Season 12 trailer, the Lich King’s Frostmourne from Blizzard’s World of Warcraft was shown. This is certainly a step down from the previous Transformers and Cowboy Bebop collaborations, but one that doesn’t come as a surprise.
