In conjunction with Lawak Kampus’ 20th anniversary, Lil Critter Workshop and Kadokawa Gempak Starz has announced a brand new animated webseries that will introduce the iconic Malaysian comic to the next generation of youths — and it found its home on TikTok.
The original comic follows the hijinks of three socially dysfunctional best friends — Vanness, Aditas, and Froggy — as they do their worst to learn the essential life skills they need to survive school and beyond. Reimagined as LK School Daze, a series of 104 micro-short episodes will be released on the @LKSchoolDaze TikTok account starting today, with 2 new shorts dropping every week.
This will pave the way for an upcoming 52-episode animated series in English on YouTube, and in Bahasa Malaysia exclusively on Astro later this year, with the ultimate goal of taking the show to global audiences.
As shared by Walid Omar, Executive Producer for Lawak Kampus and Lil Critter Workshop, “In recognition of the 20th anniversary of this iconic IP, we wanted to take something local and make it global. Created by Malaysians, set in Malaysia and featuring Malaysian characters, LK School Daze is made to be universally relatable to both a local and global audience.”
LK School Daze is in good hands with Lil Critter Workshop, the creative and producing studio for the series, and also the studio behind the award-winning YouTube digital series My Little Pony – Tell Your Tale and the YouTube digital series Emojitown.
“There is an abundance of untapped potential when it comes to content creators, visual artists, and storytellers in Malaysia. The success of Lawak Kampus in the region and Lil Critter Workshop’s recent Kidscreen award win earlier this year serves as a testament to this fact,” says Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the launch of LK School Daze, where we can showcase the creativity and artistic prowess of our youth. Through this platform, they can demonstrate their skills and share their unique perspectives on teen life, while highlighting the rich culture and diversity of Malaysia. We believe that this medium will be accessible to everyone, making it a great opportunity to showcase our nation’s talent to the world,” he adds.
