On the 6th of August, we had the opportunity to attend a soft launch of a new ACG event, Pokanime Planet! The event is slated to happen on the 23rd-25th of September at Pavilion Bukit Jalil Exhibition Centre, brought to you by Rasta Creations Sdn Bhd with the support of the Malaysian Tourism Board and Pavilion Mall Bukit Jalil.
While the ACG landscape has always been peppered with events happening almost every weekend since the pandemic restrictions were lifted, this one comes off the name of a pretty big organizer. We’ll talk more about it in detail later on, but what happened during the soft launch?
The soft launch was held to announce to members of media and general public details of the upcoming Pokanime Planet Cosplay Carnival. The carnival will feature over 100 exhibitor booths and will have 3 days of stage performances, from cosplay musicians such as Blossom and Rina-Hime, to panel forums and workshops, as well as a cosplay competition, featuring Fumiko as one of the judges!
The founder of Pokanime Planet is Rasta Rashid, who is a fashion designer for the labels Rasta Creation and Batek by Rasta Rashid, and formerly organized one of Malaysia’s biggest fashion shows, Malaysia Fashion Week!
“Rasta Creation has been established for over 15 years, supplying ballet and dance costumes to over 200 dance schools in Malaysia and abroad. Therefore, performing and the arts are definitely something close to my heart,” said Rasta during her speech.
Eventgoers can expect an infusion of fashion in Pokanime Planet, especially with the Management and Science University (MSU) fashion students participating in the event’s costume design competition. For budding designers, MSU will also be promoting their fashion and lifestyle course throughout the weekend.
The event will see Malaysian-born and the Netherlands-based children’s book illustrator Joanne Liew Vriethoff, Mokumentary cartoonist Daniel Mok and YouTube anime content creators Zamakh and Imran on the panel forums. Tourism Malaysia strategic and planning senior director Syed Yahya Syed Othman and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur marketing director Kung Suan Ai were also present at the soft launch.
So what are you waiting for? Make your calendars on 23rd-25th of September at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Tickets are priced affordably at RM10 per day, or RM20 for all 3 days — and you can buy them online now!
