Back-to-Back SEA Champions
Malaysian esports team Geek Fam have emerged as the champions of the ONE Esports DOTA2 SEA League, bringing home a prize pool of $40,000 in the process.
After a 3-1 victory over rival team Fnatic in the grand finals, Geek Fam has once again proved that they are the best team in the region, winning another championship back-to-back after capturing $21,000 last June in the BTS Pro Series Season 2: SEA online tournament.
Bittersweet Victory
Geek Fam’s victory comes at the end of several close calls and tough matches for the team. Having placed third in the group stage before advancing to the winner bracket playoffs, Geek Fam were in for a shaky start with a 0-2 match against TNC Predator.
Later on, Geek Fam had a close series against Team Adroit and T1, with both BO3 series brought to the last game. After these tight matches, Geek Fam managed to advance through the lower bracket finals and swept TNC Predator clean, before proceeding to the grand finals against Fnatic.
The Core Carry Player of Geek Fam
The secret to Geek Fam’s success is player Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto, who is undoubtedly the best carry in SEA at the moment. With a consistent top-tier performance this season, Raven managed to give Fnatic, the previous winners of BTS Pro: SEA, a true nightmare in the grand finals.
With that, we’d like to congratulate Geek Fam on their well-deserved victory! If you’d like to see more of their esports journey, be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
