After the announcement that Netflix would be producing a live-action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ series in November last year, today we get our first look at the main cast, with the roles for Spike Spiegel and Jet Black now being cast.
According to Variety, Spike will be played by the brilliant John Cho, whom you may remember from roles such as Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek reboots, and Harold Lee from Harold & Kumar. His debut as a lead actor role however, was in last year’s sleeper hit, Searching.
Jet Black will be played by Mustafa Shakir, of Luke Cage fame where he played Bushmaster. This will be his 2nd major role in a television series since Luke Cage.
Apart from those two, there have also been several roles that were cast. These include Daniella Pineda, who will play the amnesia-stricken Faye Valentine, while British stage actor Alex Hassell will take on the role of Vicious, a notorious hitman and Spike’s rival.
The show will feature the director of the original anime, Shinichiro Watanabe, coming on board as a consultant, with a trial run of 10 episodes. The first episode will be penned by Christopher Yost, the screenwriter for both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.
