Dear The Magic Rain Team,

I want to be a utaite but I feel like I should give up this dream. Honestly… should I? I’m just too young.

Sincerely,
Crying Boy

Dear Crying Boy,

First of all, never give up on your dreams. You’re still young and there’s so much more to experience in life. For those of you who do not know, Utaite is a Japanese term for individuals who do covers for previously released songs and post them on Nico Nico Douga or even Youtube.

Crying Boy, age is just a number, and your talent will speak for itself. In fact, you being young is an advantage, because it’s always better to start training and developing your vocal skills from a younger age rather than later in life. Besides, you have so many more opportunities to look forward to in the years to come. Take the risk and venture out and make your dreams a reality. Do your covers and have fun. Don’t think too much. Don’t worry. It’s okay to make mistakes! It’s always better to take the chance and be an Utaite rather than regret not doing it at all.

I’d like to share a personal experience. When I was younger, I took the risk of auditioning online with a singing video on Youtube to audition for the singing group. I managed to get in, and I had to travel overseas again for the 2nd audition. It was such a terrifying experience for me because, first, It was a J-pop group (I speak no Japanese… NADA!) Second, I’m quite shy. Third, we had to dance and learn a whole routine in 15 mins. I made the mistake of being under-prepared (Oops! Never do auditions when you’re having an exam!) But I will say, it was such a rewarding experience for me and I regret nothing.

So dear confessor, follow your passion, follow your dreams, but most importantly follow your heart because it knows the way. Good luck, have fun and do it! I believe in you. 🙂

Sincerely,
Ms. Scrumptious
