Pokémon Announces Two New Animated Projects for 2027

Pokémon fans have plenty of new animated adventures to look forward to, with two major projects unveiled during PokémonXP and the 2026 Pokémon World Championships.

Pokémon: Wild Card

First announced is Pokémon: Wild Card, a new feature-length animated movie scheduled for 2027. An official synopsis reads: “Pokémon: Wild Card tells the exciting story of a Pokémon TCG player and his partner Mimikyu. When the time comes to put their cards on the table, will they have what it takes to achieve their goals?

The announcement marks one of the franchise’s first new feature-length Pokémon movie releases in several years. Created by STORY inc. and CloverWorks, the film will be directed by Katsuhiko Kitada (The First Slam Dunk, Attack on Titan), featuring character designs from Akemi Hayashi (Lazarus, Sk8 The Infinity).

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu

Pokémon also revealed a new teaser for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, featuring closer looks at some of the Galarian Pokémon set to appear in the series. The upcoming animated series is being developed in collaboration with Aardman, best known for their distinctive stop-motion animation.

During a special behind-the-scenes presentation, Pokémon’s director of original animation Phil Rynda joined key Aardman creatives to discuss the upcoming project. Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2027.


Together, the two projects highlight Pokémon’s continued expansion into new animation styles and storytelling formats, with more details expected closer to their respective releases.
