Overwatch’s New Battle Pass System Explained – Quicker & Better

Whenever a new season rolls out, there’s bound to be a new battle pass following suit. Much of the excitement around battle passes are of course, the sick new cosmetics you’ll get. However, some of us just don’t have the time to actually grind and complete them. To help with the FOMO, for Season 4 of Overwatch, Blizzard has introduced a new battle system to enable players to get their hands on cosmetics the might’ve missed!

The days of cosmetics being locked forever or teasing you in the hero gallery are gone! With the new battle pass system, along with the un-vaulting of previous battle passes, players will no longer have to treat battle pass completion like a second job. Let’s look at the details!

How Does It Work?

The old battle pass used a linear system separating the F2P and Premium goodies, which capped at BP Lv. 80. To get to the good stuff, you essentially had to grind till the end of the battle pass, which was rather challenging as it’s very time consuming, and players had limited time to complete it. For many players, it made the game feel almost like a second job.

Now, the new system allows players to select a pathway through the battle pass. The pathways will be available after completing the battle pass initial track. Why the change? The new system allows for faster and more targeted grinding, for starters. Players can now select whichever path has a cosmetic they really want and put all progress into directly getting said cosmetic. Meaning, you’ll still get the cosmetic you want even if you can’t finish the battle pass.

To put it simply, players should finish the initial track first. Then, you’ll be able to select 1 of 5 tracks, depending on which contains cosmetic you’re prioritising. All of the XP you earn will then go into this track. After said track is completed, you can then select another one. In case you change your mind, you can always change the active track.

Past, Present & Future, It’s All Coming Together

Along with the current battle pass, Blizzard also announced that previous, long-gone battle passes will be unvaulted. Addressing the FOMO further, this’ll allow players to acquire cosmetics from select previous battle passes. The cherry on top? There’s no time limit to acquire them!

Additionally, there’s also going to be a new “Hack” ability, where you can swap a Legendary skin in a battle pass to a different skin from another battle pass. The options for the swap is limited to a selected pool of other Legendary skins featured in other battle passes.

All in all, this new system sounds really easy and convenient. More importantly, it saves up on time! With that said, I gotta get my hands on that Moira skin!
