WIT Studio has officially announced a brand-new original television anime titled LONA (Laboratory of Optics and Neural Analysis), scheduled to premiere in Spring 2027. The project is being directed by Takashi Katagiri, best known for directing SPY×FAMILY CODE: White.
Alongside the announcement, the studio released two teaser trailers, multiple teaser visuals, and details regarding the anime’s main cast and creative team.
What Is LONA About?
Set in a fractured near-future world, LONA follows humanity as it confronts a mysterious phenomenon involving attacks carried out by people who are supposedly already dead. To investigate the growing crisis, the government turns to a specialized organization known as the Laboratory of Optics and Neural Analysis (LONA).
The story centers on researcher Ao and her apprentice Sango, who seek answers by examining the neural data and memories left behind in the brains of the deceased. As they dive deeper into these lingering fragments of consciousness, they uncover hidden truths about what people experience and leave behind in their final moments.
Who Is In LONA?
The anime will star:
- Minako Kotobuki as Ao

- Anna Nagase as Sango

- Fūka Izumi as Mugen

The original story and screenplay are being handled by Akiko Nogi, known for her work on INU-OH, Library Wars, and the live-action I Am a Hero films. Katagiri will direct the series at WIT Studio, which is also overseeing the project’s planning and production.
Character designs are based on original concepts by Posuka Demizu, the artist behind The Promised Neverland, while Yūdai Iino (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!! Seasons 2 and 3) is adapting the designs for animation.
