Killing Floor 3 Releases Third Seasonal Update, ‘Operation: Deep Freeze’

Developer and publisher Tripwire Interactive today launched the third seasonal update for Killing Floor 3, available to download now for free. ‘Operation: Deep Freeze’ takes Nightfall Operatives to the frozen wastes of Antarctica, where they’ll face new challenges, meet a familiar face, and acquire even more tools of their deadly trade.

Alongside a new map, Specialist, weapons, Scavenger Zed, narrative missions and Supply Pass refresh, ‘Operation: Deep Freeze’ introduces the game’s first new boss, the Alpha Scavenger, and adds dual-wielding support for the Krait and Bloodhound sidearms, longer mission lengths, updates to speed up the pace of combat, and more.

Gameplay Updates

  • Much More: New Daily Challenges, Wave and Weekly Mutators, new execution animations for many Zeds, Quality of Life improvements, bug and crash fixes, and ongoing optimization work.
  • Narrative Missions: The Brunt Ice Shelf of Antarctica is about as remote as it gets, and that’s exactly where Dr. Moorcroft and his Mire experiments have been tracked down. Nightfall agents, discovering they’re not alone, form an uneasy alliance with another lone mercenary tracking the increasingly unstable scientist.
  • Combat Pace Update: Sweeping changes to combat aim to make Killing Floor 3 feel faster, deadlier, and more in-line with the pace and lethality of Killing Floor 2. All Zeds have seen a reduction in their health, while their damage and spawn rates have been increased.
  • Survival Map – Antarctic Base: Explore an expansive new map centered around an abandoned scientific research base, with an attached dig site that’s uncommonly large for a research expedition. While most of the experimental remnants have long since frozen over, some of the facility’s former projects may be active, and deadly.
  • New Survival Option – Long Duration: Stay in the fight longer and face ever more deadly waves of zed in the new “Long” option for mission length. “Long” missions feature 10 rounds of increasingly difficult Zeds, capped with a climactic boss battle.

New Characters

  • Specialist – Masterson III: Grandson of the Bill Masterson Sr. and former Horzine Chief of Security, Masterson III found out that everyone is replaceable to the company. After being scapegoated for the Clamefield outbreak and publicly ousted he found little beyond mercenary work, eventually encountering and begrudgingly joining Nightfall. Masterson III returns as a no-nonsense Specialist with a familiar voice for a new decade.
  • Zed – Scavenger: Originally traced back to the Dreadzone in old London, this terrifying new Zed seems to represent the complete symbiosis of the Mire with some form of invertebrate life. There’s never just one, either: Scavengers hunt in packs and prioritize attacking already wounded targets with their deadly claws and lingering toxic fumes. Like many invertebrates, their heavily armored exterior hides many critical weak points that must be exposed before they attack their prey.
  • Boss – Alpha Scavenger: This massive Scavenger is a true alpha, dominating smaller scavengers and presenting an incredibly deadly threat to any Nightfall Specialist. In addition to being larger with more deadlier attacks the Alpha Scavenger has been observed cannibalizing its own dead, giving them temporary regenerative properties and empowered attacks.

New Weapons

  • Weapon – Tekko-Kagi (Ninja): Get up close and personal with the Tekko-Kagi, a pair of retractable claws featuring three deadly blades each. Due to its limited range, it’s a higher risk and reward weapon, turning any skilled Specialist into a nigh unstoppable close combat predator. Blades can be customized to inflict a variety of status afflictions with powerful heavy attacks for further mayhem, with mods like:
    • Blades: Thermal Edge, Frost Reaper, Bone Claws (Zed Tech)
    • Grips: Power Reservoir, Affliction Booster, Overcharge Cell
    • Guards: Energy Syphon (Zed Tech), Reinforced Guard, Shredder Guard
  • Weapon – M-97 Trench Gun (Firebug): A trusty partner in any close quarters fight, no matter the year. The M-97 features slam-firing – allowing players to hold down the fire button to simultaneously fire and feed new shells into the chamber seamlessly, with Incendiary Shotgun rounds loaded by default. New mods include:
    • Ammunition: Buckshot
    • Barrel: Spiked Choker, Bayonet
  • Dual-wield Sidearms Phase 1: In preparation for the Gunslinger class, this update gives players the option to purchase and dual-wield two sidearms. The first two weapons added are the Commando’s reliable Bloodhound P330 and the Engineer’s fully automatic Krait pistol. More weapons will be supported in future updates.

Finally, players can now earn 100 new rewards with the latest Supply Pass, which includes both free and paid tracks. Supply Passes can be purchased at any time while Supply Points are earned through gameplay, and neither expire. The free rewards track also adds Comic Book Reader, which digs deeper into the lore of the terrifying world of 2091.
