Studio Wife, Cornmandog and Yotsuba Interactive have officially released I Write Games Not Tragedies, a rhythm game that serves as an homage to British emo and goth subcultures. To commemorate its release, the game will be available at a 20% discount for the next two weeks.
The game follows Ash, a secondary school student in the 2000’s who feels trapped and isolated by so-called friends and the awful popular kids. His only solace is the loud music playing through his headphones (and maybe a certain beautiful blonde normie), all expressed through a unique visual-novel-meets-rhythm-game experience, featuring a hand-drawn artstyle and original music.
Players will both adore and cringe over him during his “baby bat” years from 2009, resonate with his anxieties and battles with alcoholism in the 2010s, then join him on his quest for the meaning of life as an elder emo in the 2020s. True to the punkitude, players will not only be tasked with hitting lyrics to the beat at the right points but literally screaming out their frustrations in order to obtain a high score!
