Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a live-action Life Is Strange TV series, with Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World ) set to serve as main writer, executive producer and showrunner. The series will adapt the popular Square Enix and Don’t Nod Entertainment game of the same name, which first released in 2015.
The TV series appears to largely stick to the plot of the first Life Is Strange game, following Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. At the same time, both girls will investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will soon force them to make an impossible choice.
“It’s a huge honor to be adapting Life Is Strange for Amazon MGM Studios,” Covell commented. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
Jon Brooke and Lee Singleton, studio heads at Square Enix, also shared: “For years we’ve had so many people asking us to create a Life is Strange TV show and we’re so pleased to finally partner with Amazon MGM Studios who we trust will do an incredible job bringing our universe to life.”
Life Is Strange is the latest game franchise to join Amazon Prime Video’s lineup of videogame-to-TV show adaptations. It follows the success of Fallout, Prime Video’s second most-watched title with over 100 million viewers; as well as a stable of currently in-production game adaptations, which include Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein, and Mass Effect.
