The Game Awards, the gaming industry’s biggest awards show, is a yearly celebration that recognises the best games released within the past year. It’s also come to be known as the number-one spot for game developers to make announcements and debut trailers for their upcoming projects.

1. The Witcher 4
CD Projekt Red dropped a new trailer for the next Witcher game, featuring fan favourite character Ciri as the playable protagonist. This game will mark the start of a trilogy that explores a brand-new story.
2. Elden Ring Nightreign
A new spinoff of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, Nightreign is a multiplayer co-op action survival game where three players will have to work together on an ever-changing map. Players can choose from eight unique characters, fight bosses, and collect loot to gear up for the final battle against the Nightlord. The game is slated for a 2025 release.
3. The Outer Worlds 2
Also slated for a 2025 release is The Outer Worlds 2, a sequel to the original from 2019. Players got a glimpse of some of the new features and environments they’ll be able to explore in the upcoming game. To quote the trailer: “more weapons, more action, and more… graphics?”.
4. Split Fiction
Hazelight Studios, the developers of smash hits It Takes Two and A Way Out, will be adding yet another two-person co-op game to their roster. Their upcoming title, Split Fiction, looks to be an action-adventure platforming game that combines sci-fi and fantasy elements.
5. Borderlands 4
We got our first look at gameplay for the next Borderlands game, with a new trailer featuring four new Vault Hunters, a new environment set on the planet Kairos, and a new villain known as the Timekeeper. The game is slated for a 2025 release.
6. Warframe: 1999
Warframe dropped its largest expansion yet with 1999, sending players back in time to fight against two new enemies, the Scaldra and the Techrot. The new expansion will also introduce a new Warframe, the Cyte-09, who can shoot through walls, summon ammo, disappear, and more. Warframe: 1999 releases on December 13, 2024.
7. Onimusha: Way of the Sword
After nearly two decades of absence, the Onimusha series returns with Way of the Sword, a brand-new action game coming to the PS5 in 2026. The game takes place in Kyoto during the early Edo period, featuring a lone samurai battling against the forces of the demonic Genma.
8. Stage Fright
Stage Fright is the latest project from Ghost Town Games, best known as the three-person team behind Overcooked. The game is set to be a magical and spooky two-person co-op, and has been described as “Luigi’s Mansion meets Overcooked”.
9. Dispatch
Telltale Games announced Dispatch, a superhero workplace comedy where players manage a team of misfit heroes. Notably, the game will feature a star-studded cast, with established actors Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey and Matthew Mercer starring alongside content creators Jacksepticeye, Moistcr1tikal and Alanah Pearce, among many others.
10. Okami 2
Okami, one of the most popular games from the PS2, will finally be getting a sequel after nearly 18 years of waiting. The game will be “co-developed between studios that include various staff members of the original”, including original director Hideki Kamiya, who released a heartfelt statement thanking his team members and supporters.
11. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
Last but certainly not least, Naughty Dog unveiled a brand-new game titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, starring Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Owl House) as Jordan A. Munn, a bounty hunter trying to flee from a planet that no-one has escaped from in 600 years.
