Halloween is just around the corner, and Malaysian indie games studio Nimbus Games has the perfect title to add to your wishlist. Chiyo is an immersive and atmospheric first-person puzzle-based escape room that takes place in Japan’s Edo era.
The player will play as Idate Chiyo, a newly recruited paranormal investigator of the Tokugawa Shogunate’s Magical Arcane Division. Her first assignment is to investigate some strange occurrences that reportedly originate from an abandoned mansion in the small coastal city of Gotsu in the Shimane Prefecture.
Use Chiyo’s unique supernatural powers to pierce and dive into the paranormal realm, where you will uncover the mysteries of the haunted mansion, strange and malevolent spirits, a powerful family’s darkest dealings, and the ultimate consequences of love. For fans of Nimbus Games’ previous titles, Chiyo also takes place in the same universe as Malice!
Nimbus Games recently won the award for Best Audio Design at the SEA Game Awards 2023, an annual awards show organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to recognise the finest developers and studios in the Southeast Asian game development scene.
We managed to get our hands on the Chiyo demo at Level Up KL 2023, and we were instantly impressed by the immersive sound design and interesting puzzles. We also caught a few players getting jumpscared in the middle of the crowded convention hall — but don’t just take our word for it:
The demo for Chiyo is now available on Steam with a full release coming in 2023. For more news from Nimbus Games, drop them a follow on Twitter and Youtube.
