Destin Daniel Cretton’s live-action Naruto movie has officially entered full production, with a global casting call currently underway for the roles of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Additional casting for supporting characters will take place sometime in the near future.
The film was originally announced by Lionsgate in 2015, with The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey attached to direct, before the role went to Cretton in early 2024. Cretton is best known for directing Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“Kishimoto-sensei’s stories have inspired generations of fans around the world, and it’s an honor to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time,” shared Cretton. “I’m thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of Naruto to life!”
Original Naruto series creator Masashi Kishimoto also commented, “Right now, miracles are happening one after another for me. My work Naruto is truly, really becoming a Hollywood movie! And an even greater miracle is that Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the film. I still can’t believe it!”
