As 2025 draws to a close, the team at Team Cherry isn’t just resting on their laurels after a monumental year. Following the massive success of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the developers have broken their silence to celebrate a staggering milestone: over seven million copies sold, with millions more players jumping into the fray via Xbox Game Pass.
The launch was so successful it famously crashed digital storefronts, and the studio expressed deep gratitude today for the community’s vibrant support, mods, and fan art that have flourished since release.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Free Expansion
The biggest news for fans currently exploring Pharloom is the reveal of the game’s first major expansion. Titled Sea of Sorrow, this nautically themed DLC is currently well underway. Team Cherry teased that players can expect a price tag of zero, as the expansion will be free for all current owners of the game when it arrives in 2026.
In the Sea of Sorrow DLC, players can expect brand-new areas to explore beyond the traditional heights of the kingdom, fresh bosses and tools for Hornet to master.
Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
The studio hasn’t forgotten the game that started it all. In a surprise announcement, Team Cherry confirmed they are developing a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the original Hollow Knight. This updated version will bring the technical polish of Silksong to the classic title, featuring high frame-rate modes, increased resolutions, and enhanced graphical effects.
The studio also confirmed that anyone who owns the original game on the first Nintendo Switch will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition for free.

Holiday Surprises and Physical Collectibles
To round out the announcement, Team Cherry partnered with Studio Tyto and Fangamer to launch a new line of mini-figurines. These “stylish little cuties” feature Hornet alongside her friends and rivals and are available for pre-order now on the Fangamer website.
With holiday sales approaching, both Hollow Knight titles are expected to see discounts across various storefronts, making it the perfect time for newcomers to see what the buzz is about. As the team heads off for a well-deserved winter break, 2026 is already shaping up to be the year of the insect.
