The highly anticipated collaboration between Final Fantasy XIV Online (FFXIV) and Monster Hunter Wilds is officially underway. The staggered launch saw the Monster Hunter content arrive in Wilds in late September, with the FFXIV portion following swiftly in early October.
FFXIV
The crossover content for FFXIV revolves around a challenging new Trial, forcing players to adapt their MMO strategies to handle a formidable new foe from the lands of Wilds.
Players can now take on the Guardian Arkveld, a massive wyvern whose fight is designed to be a true test of skill, requiring the precise coordination and movement typical of a Monster Hunter hunt. A punishing Extreme difficulty is also available for those seeking the ultimate challenge.
Success in the Trial grants players a suite of impressive rewards, including the Seikret Horn and Felyne Support Team Cart Horn mounts, new minions like the adorable Seikret Fledgling, the stylish Hope Armor set, and Veldian-themed weapons for almost every job. Even player housing gets a touch of the wilderness with new items like the Hunter’s Grill.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Over in Monster Hunter Wilds, the collaboration comes as part of the extensive Free Title Update 3. Hunters are now tasked with taking down Omega Planetes, a mechanical superboss that requires players to team up to survive the boss’s devastating attacks, a possible nod to the coordinated strategy needed in FFXIV’s high-end raids.
Victory over Omega yields materials for new gear sets, including the Bale Armor α and the exclusive Omega’s Attire α from the toughest fight. Hunters can also craft themed weapons like the Shadowbringer Great Sword, and dress their trusty Seikret in a charming “My Little Chocobo” outfit.
Hunters can also equip new gear to unlock skills inspired by the Dark Knight, featuring the iconic defensive barrier “The Blackest Night”; and the Pictomancer, which allows players to cast drawing-inspired spells from their item pouch.
