Have you ever wanted to play Scrabble, but more?
Developed by solo developer Le Poulet, Wordatro is a roguelite word game that puts your linguistic and strategic thinking to the test. Play solo or challenge the global leaderboard through ten intense levels, where your ultimate goal is to create high-scoring words in the fewest turns possible.
Much like actual Scrabble, the main gameplay of Wordatro involves building words using a limited pool of letters, with each letter carrying a unique point value. What makes it different is the addition of bonuses, which you can equip from a random selection between rounds. From score multipliers to increased drop rates for special tiles, each run is going to be a completely different experience.
Wordatro is the kind of game that’s easy to understand and difficult to master. Since it eliminates the “board” part of Scrabble, most of the challenge comes down to the strength of your vocabulary. With a limited number of energy (or turns) and rerolls per stage, you’ll want to choose your words, special letters, and bonuses wisely to rack up the highest score possible within the turn limit.

While the built-in randomisation makes Wordatro endlessly replayable alone, the best part of the game is the Daily Challenge. Every day, its active community of players compete on a fresh puzzle, with the highest scores entering the Global Leaderboard. If you’re a Wordle fiend like I am, this might scratch the same itch for you. Although from the perspective of someone whose native language isn’t English, the Daily Challenge may prove a little too steep of a challenge.
In general, the game has four difficulty modes to choose from: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Pro. Personally I found it doable albeit challenging at Hard Mode, while the Daily Challenge is a true test of your vocabulary. Out of the ten stages, I couldn’t make it further than the second stage, but get the game for yourself and see if you can get a better score!
But if you’re a little less competitive, Wordatro can also be a casual and relaxed experience. There aren’t any time limits, so you can take your time deciding on the best strategy to take in each stage. It even has a built-in Twitch integration where streamers can allow their chat to suggest words through a poll function.

Verdict: A Wordle Alternative
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you fused Scrabble and Balatro together? Wordatro is a roguelite word game that is easy to understand and difficult to master. The goal is to create the highest scoring words in the fewest turns possible, with randomised bonuses to spice up your wordplay. While it can be played alone, Wordatro is the most fun when you take up the Daily Challenge and try to place on the global leaderboard — or take the game online with its built-in Twitch integration.
