Capcom Showcases Updates For Resident Evil, Onimusha & Monster Hunter Wilds

Yesterday on gamescom’s Opening Night Live 2025, Capcom showed off some new trailers for Resident Evil: Requiem and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, plus the announcement of a special collaboration between Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV Online. Here’s what you need to know:

Resident Evil: Requiem

Viewers got an extended look at the highly anticipated Resident Evil: Requiem, with a new trailer giving us a glimpse of protagonist Grace Ashcroft’s dark past. Set 30 years after the original outbreak in Raccoon City, Requiem follows Grace on a new case where the she must return to the scene to face her tragic memories. The game will release on 27 February 2026 for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC via Steam.

The Resident Evil franchise will also celebrate its 30th anniversary in March 2026. Capcom celebrated the milestone on stream with a new 30th anniversary logo, as well as a special illustration featuring Grace and other characters from the franchise’s history.

Onimusha

Onimusha: Way of the Sword showed off more footage from the upcoming game, featuring a a secret laboratory where a sinister entity known as Dokyo toils away at creating new Genma – or new enemies for the player to face.

These include the Greater Nue, which can harness the power of lightning; the Kogashira: Humans warped by parasitic Genma that create poisonous clouds of Malice; and the Chijiko, a grotesque mass of interwoven human faces with far-reaching tentacles. Players will have to use protagonist Musashi Miyamoto’s powers to deflect, parry and strike back at these fearsome monsters.

The trailer also gave viewers a glimpse of combat beyond swordplay, including archery and a dual-edged blade with whirlwind attack. More gameplay details are expected to be revealed in the coming months, as Onimusha: Way of the Sword approaches its 2026 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV Online Collab

Monster Hunter Wilds producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV Online, took to the gamescom stage to reveal a major collaboration between the popular role-playing games.

Set to arrive in late September alongside Monster Hunter Wilds’ free Title Update 3, the collaboration will see Chocobos and other Final Fantasy elements appearing in the Forbidden Lands. Hunters can also look forward to encountering the robotic superboss Omega Planetes in an all-new narrative quest. More details will be revealed closer to the official launch.
