‘Black Myth: Wukong’ Developers Announce Follow-Up, ‘Black Myth: Zhong Kui’

GameScience, the developer and publisher behind Black Myth: Wukong, have officially announced their next project, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The news was first revealed during gamescom‘s Opening Night Live on August 20, 2025.

Much like Black Myth: Wukong, the game will re-imagine a classic Chinese folktale, this time following the mythical figure of Zhong Kui. According to legend, Zhong Kui is a spirit who vowed to rid the Tang Dynasty of Xuhao, or harmful spirits. It is a popular custom in China to paste images of Zhong Kui on household doors on New Year’s Eve in order to banish these evil spirits.

GameScience shared that the new title will “distinctive experiences and gameplay features that push our limits” and “bring fresh ideas and necessary changes to address past flaws and regrets.” The company also showcased a teaser for the new title at gamescom, but have yet to announce a specific release date and release platform.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui will follow the blockbuster success of Black Myth: Wukong, the debut title from GameScience, which sold over 10 million copies across PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S in just 3 days. Black Myth: Wukong also became Steam’s best-selling and highest-rated single-player release on the platform in 2024.
