All The Fighting Game News From EVO Las Vegas 2025

One of the world’s biggest fighting game events, the Evolution Fighting Game Championships (a.k.a. EVO) took place in Las Vegas over the weekend. Fans were not only treated to exciting matches between top fighting game players, but also a huge slew of new announcements and releases.

Here’s a quick rundown of all the big announcements that were made over the weekend:

Guilty Gear -Strive-

Guilty Gear -Strive- will launch its highly anticipated collaboration with Cyberpunk 2077 on August 21, featuring the anime’s heroine Lucy as a playable character. The game is also set to receive a 2.0 update in 2026, with the trailer hinting at two new characters being added to the roster.

Hunter X Hunter Nen X Impact

The recently-released Hunter x Hunter fighting game will add Neferpitou as its next playable character in Fall 2025. Three new 3 DLC characters were also teased, releasing in Winter 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026.

UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes

Izumi will be added to the game as a new DLC character, releasing this August 19 on Steam, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and August 21 on Nintendo Switch. A technical character who controls a fish entity called Elefee, she manipulates water powers to perform a variety of combos. 

She will be available via the UNI2 Season Pass, which also includes previous DLC characters Ogre and Uzuki.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

Visitors to EVO could try out a beta build of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the upcoming Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works. If you missed out, you can still stand a chance to join the game’s closed beta test from September 5-7. Registration for the closed beta is available here.

Street Fighter 6

Ahead of the Street Fighter 6 Top 8 matches, Capcom premiered a teaser trailer for C. Viper, the second character to be released in Year 3. Players can unlock her through the Year 3 Ultimate Pass and Year 3 Character Pass, both of which will also include the previously announced DLC character Sagat, as well as upcoming characters Alex (releasing early Spring 2026), and Ingrid (late Spring 2026).

Capcom also gave fans their first look at new swimsuit-themed Outfit 4 costumes, available for seven Street Fighter 6 characters, including Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly and A.K.I.. These outfits will be released alongside Sagat on August 5.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will receive a new update on August 7, with new features such as:

  • New Characters For Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER: Four new characters, including fan favorite Ingrid, will be joining the roster, along with new artwork and the ability to enable “Mode Select” in EX settings.
  • New Mode for Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein: Players will be able to display plasma combos in training mode.
  • New Artwork: New additions are coming to the collection’s gallery.
  • Bonus tracks: New tracks will be added to Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 and Power Stone.
  • Capcom Soundtracks: Over 100+ combined original soundtracks from Capcom Fighting Collection and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 are now available on select digital platforms. 

Tekken 8

Bandai Namco showed off two new characters coming to Tekken 8, featuring the return of fan-favourite character King, now with a new fiery form; as well as Tekken 8’s first original DLC character, a Madagascan fighter named Miary Zo. Read more about them here.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage

SEGA announced new details for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, releasing this October 30 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will launch with a free update including a brand-new single-player mode, “World Stage,” as well as a paid DLC allowing fans to play as the series’ antagonist, Dural.

Pre-orders for the game are now available via SEGA’s official website, with every pre-order including bonus rewards such as collaboration packs, costumes, and customization items. Fans can also sign up for a chance to participate in the closed beta test, planned for early September across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

New Virtua Fighter Project

Aside from the R.E.V.O. World Stage news, fans also got their first in-game look at the combat in the upcoming Virtua Fighter Project, which features a fight between Akira Yuki and Sarah Bryant.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

The next DLC fighter for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising was revealed to be Wilnas, coming to the game on August 5. He will release alongside the game’s 2.20 update, which will implement EX character modes for Gran, Djeeta and Narmaya.

The game will also launch its collaboration with the anime series Zombie Land Saga on the same day, with a DLC set that includes an avatar of Kotari Tatsumi, as well as three series-inspired badges.

Invincible VS

Omni-Man joins the roster for Invincible VS, described as a versatile and brutal fighter who can go for or against any team composition. He can apply pressure from a distance with his concussive blast, punish reckless advances with anti-air tools, or close the gap in an instant with sudden and devastating takedowns.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Last but certainly not least, Ken from Street Fighter will join Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as a new guest character, available now for players everywhere. He is the first of two guest Street Fighter characters being added to the game, with Chun-Li releasing this winter.
