Marvel Games and NetEase Games have officially revealed full details for Season 3 of Marvel Rivals, titled “The Abyss Awakens”. Scheduled to begin on July 11, the update introduces a host of new content, including a playable Phoenix, a new map known as Klyntar: Celestial Husk, and several gameplay updates.
New Hero: Phoenix
Season 3 marks the debut of Phoenix as a new playable Duelist character. Hailing from an alternate timeline where Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force have achieved full harmony, she now embarks on a cosmic journey to extinguish a looming darkness threatening the universe. Armed with immense psionic power amplified by the Phoenix Force, Phoenix combines devastating energy attacks with team-focused abilities.
New Map: Klyntar – Celestial Husk
The latest battlefield is Klyntar: Celestial Husk, set within the remains of a slain Celestial orbiting the symbiote homeworld of Klyntar. This haunting and dynamic environment features terrain impacted by the cosmic decay brought on by Knull, the symbiote god. The map promises destructible elements and unique strategic verticality.
Gameplay and Feature Updates
In addition to new content, Season 3 introduces major gameplay and quality-of-life enhancements:
- New Team-Ups: Four new character synergies are being added, expanding combo possibilities.
- Battle Pass & System Updates: A new battle pass and revised mission system aim to improve progression and engagement.
- Competitive Mode: A brand-new competitive mode will roll out in the second half of the season.
- Accessory Customization: Players will gain deeper customization options for their heroes through the updated accessories system.
- Blade Joins the Roster: The vampire hunter Blade is confirmed as an upcoming playable character.
Student Costume Trials
Starting in Season 3, Marvel Rivals will offer exclusive costume trials to verified university students in select regions, including the U.S. and U.K. Verified players will gain seasonal access to 10 rotating MVP costumes. The verification system is expected to expand to more countries in the future.
