Sanrio has launched the 40th edition of its annual Sanrio Character Ranking poll, where fans can vote for their favourite out of Sanrio’s roster of 90 unique characters. The theme for this year’s poll is “JUMP! To The Future With You!”, symbolising how the company and its fans can “leap high toward our dreams and the future” together.
Voting is open from now until May 25th, and fans can vote once per day for each character, with the final results for the poll set to be announced on June 29th. If you live near a Hot Topic or Sanrio store, you can also cast your vote in-person to redeem a free “I Voted” sticker.
Aside from the sticker, fans won’t really get anything for voting, though it’s generally expected that the poll results will help to inform Sanrio’s merchandising decisions for the rest of the year. It hasn’t stopped fans from showing up in droves to support their favourite characters, though – last year, over 44 million votes were cast by fans from around the globe.
As of the time of writing, Cinnamoroll is leading in first place, followed by Pochacco in second and Kuromi in third. Cinnamoroll is expected to once again sweep the competition – the cute cloud dog has come in first place five years in a row, and has overall won first place seven times since 2017, only being briefly dethroned by Hello Kitty in 2019.
