The Biggest Announcements From The March 27 Nintendo Direct

The March 27 Nintendo Direct presentation gave fans their first look at new games and updates coming to the Nintendo Switch. Announcements included the launch of the Nintendo Today app, which will give fans updates on their favourite games through a curated platform; as well as a new virtual game cards feature for the Switch, which will allow players to transfer digital games between devices, or even lend them to family group members.

It was also announced that more details on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will be shown during a separate Direct presentation, happening on April 2 at 6AM PT (9PM MYT). Now with all that out of the way, let’s get into the big game reveals:

1. Pokémon Legends: Z-A

We got more details on the storyline for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which got its first gameplay reveal during last month’s Pokémon Presents livestream. Trainers can choose either Chikorita, Tepig or Totodile to be their partner Pokémon in Lumiose City, where Quasartico Inc. is carrying out an urban redevelopment plan with the goal of making it easier for people and Pokémon to coexist.

When night falls in Lumiose City, highly skilled Trainers will be invited to participate in the Z-A Royale tournament, where you’ll enter city-wide battle zones to begin your climb from Rank Z all the way up to Rank A. Trainers who reach the top are even said to have a wish granted. Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches on Nintendo Switch late 2025.

2. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4 finally gets a release date, now officially set to launch on the Nintendo Switch later this year. This game is one that’s been nearly eight years in the making, as it was first announced at E3 in 2017, but faced delays after having to restart its development in 2019.

The trailer sees Samus Aran being unexpectedly transported to the planet Viewros. As she explores the planet for answers, Samus is granted Psychic Abilities – mysterious and ancient powers that allow her to control the trajectory of her beams, operate mechanisms and open doors. Players will uncover why these powers were bestowed upon Samus, and what lies ahead for her on this planet.

3. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar

Marvelous Entertainment continue their streak of Harvest Moon remakes with Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, a remake of the 2008 Nintendo DS game Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar, featuring updated visuals, new characters, an expanded story and voiced event scenes.

You play as a new resident in Zephyr Town, where you’ll be tasked with rebuilding your farm and tending to your crops and farm animals, the fruits of which which you can also sell at your customizable store in the weekly bazaar. You’ll also be able to forge friendships with a cast of charming townsfolk – and maybe even find that special someone – when the game launches this August 27.

4. Disney Villains Cursed Café

Coffee Talk but with Disney villains” is a sentence we’d never thought we’d say, but here we are with Disney Villains Cursed Café, a game where you play as a Potionista tasked with crafting potions for iconic villains like Cruella de Vil, The Evil Queen, Gaston, Captain Hook, Jafar, Maleficent, and Ursula.

Interestingly, the villains have all been redesigned to fit into a modern setting, and will have modern problems that you will help untangle as you serve them potions from your enchanted café. Gaston is trying to impress his golf bros, Hook wants to make it big in his community theater, Maleficent is trying to dominate social media, Ursula is going into reality TV, and so on. The game is now available to purchase for the Nintendo Switch.

5. RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army

Atlus announced a remaster of its 2006 PS2 game Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army, now titled RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army. Fans of the action JRPG will be able to re-experience the story with revamped visuals, voice acting, an overhauled battle system, and more.

You play as a Devil Summoner named Raidou Kuzunoha, who can use over 120 demonic allies to unravel the mysteries that await you in a fantasy version of 1930s Tokyo. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch, as well as via PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, this June 19.

6. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Last but certainly not least, Nintendo closed out the presentation with our first look at Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the first new Tomodachi Life game in over ten years. Not much is known about the game so far, but it seems like fans will once again be able to create their own Mii characters and watch them play out their adventures, this time on a beautiful island surrounded by the sea.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches on Nintendo Switch in 2026.
