VTuber Kizuna Ai officially announced today that she will be rebranding under the name “KizunaAI”, with her future content focusing on music production. The surprise announcement follows her three-year indefinite hiatus, which she undertook after her February 2022 live performance “hello, world”.
KizunaAI is widely regarded as a pioneer in the VTubing industry. When she debuted in 2016, she was one of the first online personalities to combine livestreaming with motion-capture technology and the use of an anime-style avatar. Actress Nozomi Kasuga formally confirmed that she was the main performer behind KizunaAI in 2020.
Along with her return announcement, KizunaAI also released “Kamone”, her first new single since her hiatus. This marks her channel’s new focus on music-related content, with plans to release an album consisting of 10 new songs that will be released throughout the year. Kasuga is also credited on the song as a “voice model”, likely indicating that she is involved in the new phase of KizunaAI’s career.
