Singaporean game developer That One Time I Made A Game Studio has announced their debut title Majulah, a city-building game that puts a fresh spin on the genre while also celebrating Singaporean culture. A demo for the game will tentatively release in Q2 of 2025.
Combining strategic gameplay with elements of governance and roguelike mechanics, Majulah challenges players to plan, build, and lead a thriving city by strategically arranging Singapore-styled buildings. Each building type comes with its own set of rules: residential buildings thrive when surrounded by diverse types, offices score best in chains, and shopping malls flourish when spaced apart.
Adding depth to the gameplay, players can recruit unique Cabinet Members who provide powerful abilities, such as increased building scores or access to extra land. Parliament sessions after each round allow for new building choices and additional Cabinet Members. After three rounds, an election is held where players must rally citizen support to secure their next term, ensuring their city continues to grow and evolve.
The studio’s goal is to share the lesser-known aspects of Singapore with the world. “When it comes to Singapore, many only know us for being ‘Crazy Rich’ or for iconic landmarks like Marina Bay Sands,” says Khairul, the studio’s founder. “We aim to change that by showcasing how much more there is to discover.”
That One Time I Made A Game Studio was founded in Singapore in 2024. The studio is dedicated to creating games that entertain and educate, while also spreading awareness of Singaporean culture globally. For more news and updates on Majulah, be sure to follow them on X/Twitter.
