Talk about meta. Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish)’s Oshi no Ko manga will be getting a real-life stage play adaptation, based on the “2.5D Stage Play” arc of the manga. The same arc is currently featured in the ongoing second season of the anime.
The arc’s story focuses on protagonist Aqua Hoshino as he participates in a 2.5D stage play titled “Tokyo Blade”. The live-action stage play will also be performed as a play-within-a-play, complete with its own original script, lyrics, and music.

The series has been praised for its commentary on the Japanese entertainment industry, specifically revealing the dark side of the idol industry. The manga currently has over 16.5 million copies in circulation, and was nominated for the 28th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and the 48th annual Kodansha Manga Awards this year.
The manga began its final arc on June 27th, 2024.
