ONE PIECE Gets Anime Remake For Netflix, Animated By WIT Studio

Wit Studio and Netflix are teaming up to produce a complete remake of the ONE PIECE anime, titled The One Piece. The news was first announced at Jump Festa ’24 in commemoration of the anime’s 25th anniversary, while the recent One Piece Day ’24 livestream confirmed more details about the project and animation team onboard.

The 1999 anime adaptation was originally handled by Toei Animation and premiered on October 20th. Since then, over 1,000 episodes have been released following the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they explore the Grand Line in search of the mythical treasure known as the One Piece.

The One Piece will re-adapt the entirety of the manga starting from its first arc, the East Blue Saga. With the remake, they hope to fix pacing issues and provide a new approach to the series. At the same time, fans can still expect the newest chapters of the manga to continue being animated by Toei Animation for now.

Production will be helmed by director Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan, Moonrise) and assistant director Hideaki Abe (Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes). Kyoji Asano (Attack On Titan, Spy X Family) and Takatoshi Honda (The First Slam Dunk) will serve as character designers and chief animation directors.

While there is no exact release date yet, fans can expect The One Piece to be released sometime in 2025.
