Overwatch 2 just dropped a free limited-time trial for their newest damage hero, Venture, from March 28th to 31st. First teased during BlizzCon 2023, Venture is a spunky archeologist equipped with a literal hand drill as a weapon.
The first Venture gameplay trailer was also released last night. Their main weapon, the Smart Excavator, looks to be a slow firing but high damage weapon that launches a seismic charge which bursts after a short distance. Their ultimate is an AOE attack that sends out damaging shockwaves across a long distance.
The most interesting parts of their kit are the movement abilities, Burrow and Drill Dash. Burrow allows Venture to tunnel underneath enemies and become invulnerable, then emerge to deal damage; while Drill Dash allows them to dash forward and push enemies back. Not only that, using any abilities will grant them temporary shields.
Venture will be making their official debut in Overwatch 2 Season 10 on April 16th. Unlike previous seasons, Venture — and all new heroes moving forward — will become available immediately once the season drops.
New players still need to complete the onboarding experience to progressively unlock heroes, but once the heroes from the first game’s roster have been unlocked, all Overwatch 2 heroes will also become available immediately.
Previously, players were required to unlock new heroes by completing challenges or progressing the season’s Battle Pass. This change arrives with a bunch of other updates for Season 10.
