Overwatch 2 Season 6 Introduces New Support Hero, Story Missions & PVP Game Mode

Overwatch 2 Season 6 drops today — and it might be the game’s most highly anticipated season yet. From the new support hero Illari, to the brand new Overwatch 2: Invasion story missions, Season 6 marks a huge new content drop and even more reasons to get that Premium Battle Pass upgrade.

But don’t reach for your wallets just yet! Here’s everything you need to know about the newest Overwatch season.

Free-To-Play Updates

New Support Hero: Illari

Overwatch 2 is adding a new support hero to the mix, the solar-powered Illari from Peru. Although her ability kit is yet to be confirmed, the Season 6 teaser trailer gives us a glimpse at her weapon and ultimate ability, a large area-of-effect ability that both damages enemies and heals allies. It also appears that Illari can heal her teammates by summoning turrets.

Like previous seasons, players will be able to unlock Illari by progressing the Free Battle Pass. However, you can also unlock her immediately by upgrading to the Premium Battle Pass.

New Core Game Mode: Flashpoint

A whole new PVP core game mode will be coming to both Quick Play and Competitive Play upon the new season launch. In the Flashpoint game mode, teams will fight for control of key positions across the map called “flashpoints” with the goal of capturing three of them before your opponents do.

New Systems: Hero Mastery & Player Progression

The Hero Mastery mode introduces brand new training courses specifically designed to test your skills with each hero. The first batch of hero training courses are dropping on Sept 5th, with more to come in the future. It will also feature global leaderboards to showcase the top-performing players across the world.

The Player Progression system will also be dropping on Sept 5th, as a new way to track your time spent with each hero and progression towards mastery. Progressing heroes will also unlock name cards which you can use to show off your favourite mains.

‘King’s Row: Underworld’ Co-Op Event

Players who aren’t looking to spend money on the Story Missions can look forward to the bonus co-op mission on King’s Row. In this mission, guide a well-armed TS-1 push bot on a mission to save the Omnic Underworld from Null Sector. However, it is only available from Aug 10th to Sept 5th so make sure to catch it before it’s gone.

Overwatch 2 Anniversary Event

The Overwatch 2 Anniversary Event will be returning on Sept 19th, with the reintroduction of anniversary cosmetics and limited-time game modes every week: Battle For Olympus in Week 1, Starwatch in Week 2, and Mischief & Magic in Week 3.

Paid Updates

Overwatch 2: Invasion Story Missions

Overwatch 2: Invasion is the game’s first foray into an in-depth PVE game mode, featuring three story missions: ‘Resistance’ in Rio de Janeiro, ‘Liberation’ in Toronto, and ‘Ironclad’ in Gothenburg. Together with your team, you’ll be fighting against the intensified forces of Null Sector, including challenging new enemies like the powerful Artillery and deadly Stalkers.

If you’re interested in the Story Missions alone, you can purchase the Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle for $15 USD which unlocks all three Story Missions, and also comes with 1,000 Overwatch Coins and a brand-new Sojourn Legendary skin.

Premium Battle Pass with Mythic Null Sector Ana

For players who are looking for the full premium experience, the Overwatch 2: Ultimate Invasion Bundle is available for $40 USD and comes with the standard 20 Battle Pass skips, 1,000 Overwatch Coins, two new Legendary skins for Cassidy and Kiriko — plus everything in the Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle.

Much like previous Battle Passes, upgrading to the Premium Battle Pass unlocks the new support hero Illari right away. It also unlocks all Premium rewards including the Mythic Null Sector Ana skin.
