Director of ‘Joker’ Origin Movie Reveals The Name Of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker

Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime finally has a name in Todd Phillips’ upcoming movie. This is interesting considering, ever since the inception of Joker, he had never been given a name despite being one of the most well-known DC Comic characters of all time.

And his name is Arthur.

Todd Phillips, the director of the upcoming standalone Joker origin movie, released this Instagram post with just a name, “Arthur”.

Joaquin Phoenix is barefaced and this is a more subtle approach when compared to the usual heavy makeup reveal of previous jokers. Why? Considering that this is an origin story, it is possible that we will not see a reveal till mid or late into the movie. Therefore, a barefaced Joaquin Pheonix sounds like the right choice.

Early first looks of the actor shooting for the movie shows Arthur having a heated argument with a clown. It is possibly hinted that Arthur attempts to be a comedian but is failing miserably. (This leads into his clown persona, obviously.) According to Todd Phillips, this film will be an “exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Todd Phillips’ Joker movie is set to be released on October 4th, 2019.
